Build your own castle
For the past 3 years, “It’s Playtime at the château!” has been a tremendously popular family outing for anyone who loves castles, attracting more than 5,500 participants every year. For two days, Haut-Kœnigsbourg castle is completely dedicated to the event, becoming a vast playground where you can have fun with heritage: testing, experimenting, learning and dreaming, for the pleasure of the entire family!
After last year’s event focusing on “Princesses and Knights”, the theme in 2012 will focus on castle builders. With the monument currently undergoing major works and being covered in scaffolding, the “Build your castle” theme was the natural choice.
Like the architects, craftsmen, dreamers and artists who have shaped the famous Alsatian fortress over its 900 years of history, visitors, young and old alike, will try their hand at creating.
Starting right at the entrance and continuing throughout the entire monument, around fifteen attractions are offered to families. Taking the form of creative or interactive workshops, practical work or demonstrations, physical exercises or strategic challenges, these attractions are all about construction. Each activity, whether it is an introduction to stone carving, creating an imaginary castle, handling models and machines, storytelling or artistic workshops, will be a fun opportunity for visitors to discover the materials that go into making fortresses. There really will be something for everyone!
With “It’s Playtime at the château!”, Haut-Kœnigsbourg castle offers its public two days of festivities, so visitors can once more discover the monument in a new light, and have some fun!
