Thanks to the restoration of the château du Haut-Koenigsbourg at the beginning of the 20th century, students have a ready-made teaching tool which will enable them to better understand life in a medieval mountain fortress. The heritage workshop programme is divided between time spent visiting the castle and more 'in-depth' and 'hands-on' activities in the on-site classroom.
First of all, you will look at the importance of choosing a suitable site and the resources and methods used in castle-building: who worked on the construction of the castle, which tools and materials did they use and what specific factors did they have to take into consideration in this kind of construction project.
Then, you'll have a chance to handle models that demonstrate different medieval construction techniques. For example, you will build a semi-circular arch, try out different types of lifting equipment etc. You will receive a series of hand-outs at the end of the workshop which will allow you to continue studying this topic in class.Hours of departure are defined during the reservation.
