Thanks to the restoration of the château du Haut-Koenigsbourg at the beginning of the 20th century, students have a ready-made teaching tool which will enable them to better understand life in a medieval mountain fortress. The heritage workshop programme is divided between time spent visiting the castle and more 'in-depth' and 'hands-on' activities in the on-site classroom.Hours of departure are defined during the reservation.
The aim of this workshop is to understand what daily life in the Middle Ages was like for the lord of the castle. The tour of the lord's Residence will enable students to see the hallmarks of aristocratic life (food, domestic comforts, lighting, heating, furniture, tableware…), and the distinguishing marks of this class in medieval society (dress, coats of arms…). Back in the classroom, students will take part in the preparation of a banquet by setting the table, talking about the order in which the various dishes would be served and sampling some hypocras (spiced wine).
