Thanks to the restoration of the château du Haut-Koenigsbourg at the beginning of the 20th century, students have a ready-made teaching tool which will enable them to better understand life in a medieval mountain fortress. The heritage workshop programme is divided between time spent visiting the castle and more 'in-depth' and 'hands-on' activities in the on-site classroom. The goal of this workshop is to gain an understanding of the basics of heraldry. A tour of the château in search of coats of arms and some 'hands-on' activities will allow students to find out more about the art behind coats of arms. Students will explore a number of questions over the course of this workshop, including what was the purpose of a coat of arms, on what materials were they depicted, what colours and shapes were used, how did coats of arms first appear and how did they change over the passage of time.
