A remarkable historical landmark
Haut-Koenigsbourg castle,
a remarkable historical landmark
In 1919, when the Treaty of Versailles ended the First World War, Haut-Koenigsbourg became the property of the French state and was given the status of a national palace.
Throughout the 20th century, the restoration of this monument was the subject of controversy, particularly due to the ups and downs of Franco-German relations.
Classified as a historic monument in 1993, the building has now been fully restored.
A European
symbol
The silhouette of Haut-Koenigsbourg gives a clear idea of what a mountain fortress looked like in the late Middle Ages. Its walls house a wealth of medieval-inspired interior decoration, as well as an exceptional collection of weapons and furniture, mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries...
Haut-Koenigsbourg castle's reputation is firmly established.
