Can Haut-Koenigsbourg castle be visited all year round?
Haut-Koenigsbourg castle is open every day except 1 January, 25 and 26 December. We invite you to consult this page for full information on opening times.
How can I benefit from a reduced rate, a free entrance?
The price list in the conditions governing discounts indicates whether you are entitled to a discount or free admission. Everyone is entitled to free admission on the 1st Sunday of each month from November to March, on Museum Night (in May) and during the European Heritage Days (3rd weekend in September).
What methods of payment are accepted?
Payment can be made at the ticket desk in cash (in euros only), by cheque cleared in France (upon presentation of proof of identity), by credit card (Visa or MasterCard). Tickets can also be purchased online.
I'm driving my own car, where can I park? Do I have to pay to park?
There are 150 free parking spaces around the monument. Around 10 spaces are reserved for motorbikes and 15 for buses.
Are there parking spaces reserved for disabled visitors?
Yes, 6 spaces are reserved for people with disabilities at the highest point of the car park (3 at present, during the works). To find out more about the castle's accessibility, click here.
Is it possible to use public transportation?
Yes, from March to December, a shuttle bus serves Haut-Koenigsbourg castle from Sélestat station according to an annual timetable. The cost is €2.50 per journey. The ticket is valid for a single journey with or without a connection and entitles the holder to reduced-price admission to the monument (offer reserved for private individuals). The shuttle also serves the Montagne des Singes, the Volerie des Aigles, the centre of Kintzheim and Cigoland.
I have difficulty getting around, but can I still visit the monument?
From the car park, access to the castle is via a slightly uphill 300 m earth track. The outside areas, from the car park to the lower courtyard, are freely accessible to wheelchair users, who must be accompanied by an attendant. The tour route includes 300 steps of different heights and orientations. Find out more about the monument's accessibility.
Is there any possibility of eating on site?
Yes, when you arrive at the castle, at the top of the car park, there is a restaurant offering a range of local specialities.
When the weather is fine, from April to October (the period may vary slightly depending on the year), the Haut-Koenigsbourg pavilion and its terrace are open for a quick bite to eat (sandwiches, etc.).

I'd like to take a souvenir of the castle home with me. Is that possible?
There are two souvenir shops at the castle: one in the pavilion (at the top of the car park) and the other in the castle grounds. There is also a bookshop in the Haut-Koenigsbourg mill. More information on Le 757.
What are the opening hours of the various commercial services and what are the possible payment methods?
The restaurant, the souvenir shops and the bookstore in the restaurant are open at the same times as the monument.
In addition to the usual means of payment, you can pay for your purchases with holiday vouchers or luncheon vouchers.

I have a toddler, can he or she stay in the pushchair to visit the monument?
No, it is not possible to enter the monument with a pushchair (too many stairs, cramped conditions, etc.). We recommend that you use a baby carrier.
Can I take my dog into the castle?
No, dogs (or any other animal) are not allowed inside the lord's residence (even in a bag) and must not be left unattended outside.
One exception: guide and assistance dogs (on presentation of proof).
