‘‘Discover the many facets of Haut-Koenigsbourg castle!‘‘

The castle's must-sees

Dominating the Alsace plain at an altitude of 757 metres, the Haut-Koenigsbourg castle has all the assets of a fortress: a strategic position that was relatively easy to defend in the past, and today an exceptional panorama of the Alsace plain, the Vosges mountains, the Black Forest and sometimes even the Alps.
But you have to cross its drawbridge to discover its fully equipped and furnished dwellings, its collections of weapons from the Middle Ages, to climb to the top of its keep and the great bastion.
Come and discover these exceptional places...

Along the Rhine, a land of fortified castles

According to current archaeological data, there are over 1,000 castles in the Upper Rhine Valley. Even today, castles are still being discovered by archaeologists and voluntary associations.

However, only around a hundred of these castles are still visible to the general public.
