Festival Châteaux et légendes: Eleven sites celebrate the creatures of the earth
Festival Châteaux & légendes
For the sixth consecutive year, the Festival Châteaux et légendes, organized by the Collectivité européenne d’Alsace, invites visitors to explore Alsace’s fortified castles through the lens of fantasy, blending heritage, imagination, and artistic expression.
Alsace, a land of castles par excellence, is home to some 100 medieval structures, inexhaustible sources of tales, myths, and legends.
The Châteaux et Légendes Festival immerses visitors in a fantastical world through a series of events across Alsace inspired by Rhine legends.
Under the guidance of John Howe, the artistic designer of *The Lord of the Rings* trilogy, the festival aims to re-enchant these sites by creating a dialogue between medieval and contemporary imaginations. It celebrates the creatures of the earth—stone giants, kobolds, dwarves, gnomes, and more—echoing the geological richness of the Upper Rhine.
Each festival site will be transformed, for one day, into a living theater featuring performances for all ages, hands-on art workshops, music, storytelling, dance, and games: immerse yourself in the medieval world of castles and let yourself be carried away by the “Song of the Stones”!
